— Michael is the founder and director of the Broadway Bound
Players. He continues to improve the quality of theater in
South Jersey and hopes to someday expand the group into a
full-fledged, community theater. Michael is a graduate of Rowan
University and is a social studies teacher in Medford, N.J.
History
In the spring of 2002, Rowan University
student Michael Del Rossi
had an idea: to form a summer theater group for young adults
in Gloucester County, N.J. Growing up as a theater buff, he had noticed
a decline in the number of these programs in South Jersey — and an
increase in their prices.
When he approached the local
townships to ask for funding to start the Broadway Bound Players, he
received an enthusiastic response. He also secured
permission for the group to use the high school's
auditorium.
The fledgling troupe signed up its first
members in June 2002. After just over a month of rehearsals, the
Players put on a highly praised production of "The Pajama Game."
"Anything Goes" followed in 2003 and "Once Upon a Mattress" was
staged last season. This year, the show goes on with
"Footloose."
Every year, the BBP accepts
applications from youths aged 13 to 21 for another
start-to-finish summer theater production. [Click here
